Throughout mankind’s recorded history, various paradigm shifts have occurred that affect all levels of life: social, political, artistic, intellectual. This is the result of a confluence of life energy waves, having a combined affect that is perhaps greater than their individual strengths.
An example of one that occurred in the past might be the discovery of plutonium and the development of nuclear power in the 1930s. The breakthrough went to all levels of society: in intellectual circles it gave rise to nihilism; in the political circles, fascism was rage; in arts cubism took over. Often a confluence of life energy waves is seen by rare planetary alignments or in this case, the discovery of a new "planet" Pluto. One interpretation of Pluto’s recent down-sizing to a "dwarf planet" status by the astronomical community is that humans have rejected plutonium and no longer want to use its energy.
2012 represents a similar emergence of a new line of thought — but on a scale that dwarfs anthing that the discovery of nuclear energy in the 1930s represented. This is because the time cycle of 2012 is coincident with a number of much larger cycles starting anew, the 26,000 year precession of the equinox cycle, marking the alignment of solar ecliptic with the galactic center, being the largest that humans are aware of. It could be larger than that and we’re not capable or willing to have the perspective that allows "vision" of that mega-huge cycle.
One thing is certain. Once humankind goes through one of these super-charged confluences of life energy waves, we always look back and say to ourselves, "Wasn’t that a silly belief that people used to hold a given truth." Another facet (particle) of the wave is revealed.
Can you see the coming meme in science? The particle-wave duality myth is about to be given the final cabosh. Why can’t we be both particle and wave at the same time?
